French Country

I love all things French Country.  To prove my point, I will be posting pics of my current home from time to time. First up, the kitchen.  I love kitchens, it's usually where everyone gathers. Ours is simple, not overdone.  My dh is not a fan of clutter, so I try to keep it (my stuff) to a minimum.

My new favorite blog is European Antique Market.  This is her website address http:euroantiquemarket.blogspot.com.  Please go check it out and leave her a comment about hearing it on my blog.  I would love to have my blog listed on hers.

I'm just getting into this whole blogging business and I love it.  Of course my neck and shoulders are aching because I think this is becoming an addiction.
Looking at the computer for hours on end at all things Southern and French Country, along with ideas for our new house.

Au revoir,
Mes ami

Our Bayou side lot

Today, Avery and I drove out to the lot to take pictures of the dirt pad where our new house will be.  It is a beautiful and hot day.  I can't wait to see progress out here.  We should get our building permit this week, then the contractor will begin to form up for the slab.

Doesn't Bryant have the property looking good?

Decorating Tip for today

I have 9 foot ceilings in my house. To make the windows in my Dining room appear taller, I installed the curtain rod right below the crown molding and had curtains made from the floor up to the crown molding.

But once I got them up, I had this space between the curtain rod and the top of the window. I wanted to put something decorative in the space, but what?

I remembered one of my shopping trips to Washington, Louisiana the year before. Washington has lots of wonderful antique shops. I found this 6 foot piece of wrought iron. It was in my shed outside and had been there for at least a year. When I stumbled upon it at the antique store, it was so cheap and it was rust red, but I knew I could find a use for it later. Well I had it cut in half, spray painted it black, let it dry for a day or so, then sponged gold paint over the black giving it an antique effect.

I had it cut in half because I have two windows in the Dining Room.

This is the end result.

I don't know about you, but...................

I don't know about you, but I love living in a small town. I am so lucky. I can drive 45 minutes and be in Lafayette or Houma to go shopping. New Iberia is only 30 minutes away and I love to visit there. New Orleans is 1 hour and 45 minutes away. But you know what, it's always nice to come home. As soon as I drive into Franklin the peace begins to wash over me. It's only 2 lanes of traffic and we only have 4 traffic lights down Main Street.

I don't mind not fighting the traffic that you find in the larger cities, I don't mind that we only have Walmart as our major department store. If I had access to all of the great stores that I have to travel to, we would be broke. If I had access to all of the great restaurants, I would be huge. I'm happy here with our small unique stores and our small restaurants that serve delicious food. In the future I will be sharing some of these places with you in the form of the written word and pictures.

I will also be sharing with you our new adventure in home building. We are waiting to receive our building permit any day now. I will post pictures of our quiet lot located on Bayou Teche. We will be surrounded by the cane fields, the bayou, and awesome neighbors. More to come..........

Wow I am a grandmother.

I still cannot believe it.

I am a grandmother.  She is 7 months old and she is adorable.  It does not matter the circumstances in which they arrive here on the planet.  It just matters that she's here.  What is so wonderful is that when I look at her, I see her my son, her dad.  I see myself.  It's a miracle.  She is sooo good.  Very content.

It is what it is......

I am starting this blog because I want to share.  Share my loves, thoughts, words and experiences in the hopes that some of this will touch others. I have learned so much from other people and I know I will continue to do so for the rest of my life. One thing I know for certain is that this life is temporary. I live each day to it's fullest, savoring every moment. I hope you do too.
